Fun Home Activities Kids Can Engage In with Parents

Posted on Leave a comment

Even though your kids are going back to school, you can still enjoy the rest of the summer by engaging in fun outdoor activities together. Make time in the evenings and weekends to interact with your kids and teach them to love the outdoors. This will help them stay fit and healthy, develop social skills, and avoid too much time in front of screens, which can be damaging to the eyes. Here are a few ideas from Parents.

Build a Fort

Kids (and adults) love building forts, and taking your skills to the backyard is even more fun. Hang old sheets over your clotheslines or some tree branches to create your hideaway and use the spot to play games, to eat dinner, or just as an opportunity spend the evening outdoors.

Do Yard Work

Help your kids develop a passion for gardening by involving them in yard work — even toddlers can help out with weeding, watering, and planting. Purchase a few lightweight, kid-size tools to encourage your kids to join you.

Wash the Car

Another chore you can make fun is washing the car. Playing with water, soap, and bubbles is enjoyable for kids of any age, and if you make the activity fun now, they are less likely to see it as a tiresome task later.

Hang a Hammock

If your kids are tired after spending a day at school, nothing can be more relaxing than lying in a hammock. Take advantage of the light evenings and use the chance to spend time together reading, discovering pictures in the clouds, or just chatting.

Go Bug Hunting

Draw your kids attention to the very small by seeing what you can find during your bug hunt. Look out for ant colonies and worms, even frogs, tadpoles, and lizards. This is a great way to teach your kids to take an interest in the world around them.

Whenever they are out in the sun, your kids need to wear outdoor sunglasses. Find a range of styles, all with 100 percent UV protection, in the Real Kids collection.
