Even though summer is long gone and it is starting to cool off UV rays are just as much as present and you and you kids should still be wearing sunglasses. Making sure your child wears their sunglasses is extremely important because the sun’s rays can cause irreversible damage to your child’s eyes. Keep these tips in mind when you are out buying sunglasses for your kids.
- Look for real protection. A child’s sunglasses should block at least 99 percent of UV radiation, as well as 75 to 90 percent of visible light. Make sure this is printed on the tag.
- Check for durability. Go for lenses that are made of polycarbonate and won’t crack while your child is doing any type of playing.
- Check for comfort. Allow your child to try on the prospective sunglasses to make sure they fit and aren’t uncomfortable.
- Set a good example. Wear your sunglasses every time you’re outside if you want your child to do the same. Also wear a hat and sunscreen for extra protection.
