It requires a lot of planning before you venture out with your kids for a hike, mostly because hiking with young children can be an entirely different experience.  Fortunately, there are many wonderful places in US where you can take your children out for a hike that are both safe and exciting.

  • Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve, Colorado:  It’s a family-friendly spot where you can have fun time with your kids.  Children can run up the sand dunes and slide down.  However, try not to hike during afternoon in summer as it gets quite hot.
  • Kings Canyon National Park, California:  Famous for its giant sequoia trees and steep canyons, this park offers a wide range of outdoor activities to its visitors.  Visitors have an option to choose from easy to strenuous trails for hiking.  So, if you are visiting the place with your kids then you can opt for an easier hike.
  • Shenandoah National Park, Virginia:  One of the two major national parks in Blue Ridge province, Shenandoah National Park is a great escapade for hiking and other fun outdoor activities with kids, such as Skyline drive or Backcountry camping.  There are excellent camping options at Shenandoah National Park, which makes it an ideal location for great outdoor activities with families.
  • Mount Rainier National Park, Washington:  Another great place for hiking out west is Mount Rainier National Park, Washington.  Established in 1899, the park sprawls across an area of 236,381 acres.  It offers a plethora of activities for kids, such as snowshoe walks, sledding and skiing, and winter camping.  Please note, all vehicles are required to carry tire chain as a precautionary measure for slippery roads.  Also, you should check Twitter updates for recent weather conditions before going there.

A hike with your children is a great experience as you get to see your little ones exploring the world.  Plan your hike in advance to avoid any inconvenience and enjoy a great hiking experience with your kids.
