Odds are that one of your child’s favorite times of the day include lunch, recess or snack time. They may even be a big fan of all three. Because February is National Children’s Dental Health Month we will be sharing tip and activities in relation to kid’s dental health throughout the month. This week we are going to share kid friendly snacks for healthy teeth. Most kids eat a snack at school at some point during the day, and then again at home. If your child consumes snacks high in sugar at both they have an increased chance of developing tooth decay. Throw in the possibility that the snacks may contain various types of sugar and your child’s teeth becomes a breeding ground for cavities. Instead of packing your kids a snack cake or handing them a cookie when they get off the bus choose a snack that will help them obtain healthy teeth such as:
- fresh fruit
- celery, carrots or broccoli and ranch or blue cheese
- yogurt
- cheese
- nuts
- pretzels
Be sure to check back throughout the month for tips and activities on children’s dental health!
