We all know how important community involvement is to the health and well-being of our children. An initiative in Northern Ireland spearheaded by the Northern Ireland Cancer Fund for Children is working with schools to educate children about the harmful effects of sun exposure. The Hats and Shades Campaign is designed to reduce cases of skin cancer, which is the third most common cancer among young people.
Each participating school receives a pack of posters and other educational tools to help get out the sun safety message. Schools are encouraged to host a Hats and Shades Day to help build awareness of the need to wear sun protection at all times.
The campaign is sponsored by Clarins, the skin care experts.
What does your community do to help build awareness of sun safety? We’re interested in learning about local initiatives, so leave a comment to let us know!
