Since your child has been enjoying lazy days of  waking up and going to sleep whenever, they may need a little help getting back in the school groove. Because starts in a little over 3 weeks you have time to prepare. Follow these steps to ease your child back to school!

  • Reset Sleep Schedules. To ease the transition from staying up and waking up late, begin sending your child to bed 10 to 20 minutes earlier each week. By the time September 7th rolls around he or she will be accustomed to the new bed and wake-up time. *Remember your child needs 9-10 hours each night.
  • Wake Up and be Productive. Your child is used to waking up leisurely and doing as he or she pleases. As you change your child’s sleeping schedule, plan to partake in activities early in the morning so your child will get used to waking up and getting out of the house.
  • Meet the Teacher. If you child is just starting school, or entering a new grade meeting the teacher will calm butterflies. Attend the school’s open house so your child will feel comfortable with the teacher on the first day.
  • Choose a Homework Space. When your child brings home school work you want them to work diligently and be as productive as possible. To do so they need a space that is free of distractions. Converse with your child about a designated homework/study area and begin setting it up with all his or her homework essentials.
